Our History
Roade Community Choir (RCC) began in 1995.
The Willison Centre, at Elizabeth Woodville School, was built for the community and named after Head Teacher Ian Willison. It was felt there should be opportunities for non-sporting activities and a choir was suggested. A Musical Director (MD) was found and Roade Community Choir was formed with 10 people (Jenny Peck is one and is still in the choir!). After a few years RCC left the Willison Centre and took up residence in the Methodist Church, where we still meet today.
It continued independently with a few different MDs until Ian Riley took the role which he held for 22 years.
RCC went from strength to strength. Despite many Community Choirs folding during and after the pandemic, RCC has managed to continue. We met virtually during the COVID pandemic, supporting each other through this difficult time and even performed a virtual ‘Sing for Spring’ concert.
Our Music Director, Judith Dunkley, is a lot of fun and excels in bringing out our inner singer.
We have sung at various local events throughout the years including The History Society, St Mary’s Carol Service, Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Jubilee Celebrations, The Cock Pub, Sunflower Café friendship group to name but a few and take great pride in participating at Remembrance Sunday.
